The “Questions to Ask your Indian Wedding Vendors” continues with…what questions to ask your wedding DJ. Our special guest for this series is Happy from Wicked Entertainment. Wicked Entertainment is the right team for all types of events, audio and video, intelligent and elegant lighting, concert sound, and so much more. We would be flabbergasted if Wicked Entertainment is not on your list of vendors to reach out to. Feel free to give them a visit on their website and social medias to learn more, we’ll include links below. Maybe we’ll do another feature with them soon, where they answer some of these questions. Let us know if you would be interested in that post! Leave us your feedback in the comments section.
The best wedding vendors are booked well in advance, so be sure to act quickly.
Chances are you probably follow your favorite DJs on social media, so some of these questions you might already know the answers to. So, if you know the answer already or it might not be important to you, skip it. If you don’t know the DJ you’re hiring, do you research first. Hopefully the wedding DJ you’re looking at has a website and you’re able to find out a lot of the general information on their “about” section.
The most obvious first question to ask when booking any vendor is, “Are you available on my wedding date?”
The Basics + Background Information
How long have you been in business? What number of weddings have you done?
How many weddings do you do in an average weekend?
The key is to find out if the team/company is big enough to handle multiple events for your wedding and multiple clients in one weekend. Or is this a one man show trying to do more than they can handle.
Who will be the DJ at our wedding?
Have you done events at my wedding venue? Do you know our reception space and its acoustic, power and amplification requirements? If not, will you check it out beforehand?
Are there any other services that you provide, such as lighting design or a photo booth?
Can you provide me with recent couples that I can contact for references?
Do you have a sample of your music (SoundCloud, etc) or a video from a prior wedding where you performed?
Can we come take a quick peek at a wedding you’re working?
Keep in mind the Dj will be busy with the wedding, so don’t expect them to be able to pull away and answer questions on the spot. Work out meeting logistics beforehand and don’t just show up and surprise them.
Can you assist me in choosing the music for the different milestones (walking into the mandap, grand entrance, cake cutting song, songs for the family members entrance, father-daughter/mother-son dance, first couple dance, all couple dance, etc.?
How extensive is your music library or song list? What genres can you cover?
How do you keep your music collection up-to-date?
If the DJ scheduled for my event is unable to perform for some reason, do you have a backup replacement ready to go?
Do you act as the “emcee” and make all of the announcements? How would you define your “style” when making announcements?
What do you do to motivate the crowd if nobody is dancing?
How do you handle song requests from our guests?
Can we submit a “Do Not Play” list or list of songs that are important to us?
Pricing and Payment
Do you offer packages for multiple event bookings (sangeet, jaago, haldi, garba, baraat, mandap ceremony, reception, etc)?
What is included in the cost of my event(s)?
How much would you charge for overtime?
Are there any additional fees that could accrue that I am not taking into account, like travel expenses or charges for special musical requests?
When will I receive a written contract?
How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due? Do you offer a payment plan?
What is your refund/cancellation policy?
How far in advance do I need to book you?
What information do you need from me before the wedding day?
Are you insured?
Can you provide wireless mics for the ceremony?
Does any of your equipment require special electrical outlets that I need to inform my wedding venue about?
What kind of space or stage do you require for the DJ? If my site doesn’t provide what you need, will you make arrangements for the stage or am I responsible for renting it?
Do you set up a sign or banner with your equipment?
How much time will you need for setup, sound check and breakdown on the day of the event?
What time will you arrive at the venue?
Will we meet again before the wedding?
When do we need to submit our music requests and event details?
What do you typically wear?
Your wedding DJ may also provide lighting for your wedding reception and with that comes a need for an additional power supply. They may also have additional requirements for a stage. These are two factors which may cost additional.
Questions for the Venue
Here are a couple of questions to ask of your venue in relation to booking your wedding DJ. Keep an eye out for the feature “questions to ask the wedding venue” 🙂
DJ sound requirements? Are there any extra fees associated with using a DJ?
a. Sound system, outlets, etc? b. will there be an AV charge?
Is there a cutoff time where the DJ has to stop?
I will have music and a dholi for my baraat which will be outdoors, are they any sound restrictions?
